Ana Isabel Fernández Alonso is a student of the 2023-2024 LL.M. in National and Global Health Law. She is originally from Spain.

Fernández Alonso is interested in the nexus between global health, environmental law and human rights, with a focus on noncommunicable diseases, bioethics, and equitable access to health. She also holds an interest in strategic litigation, as well as in risk assessment and tailored monitoring plans on corporate sustainability due diligence.

Prior to enrolling at Georgetown Law, Fernández Alonso worked as a legal associate at Cuatrecasas, both for the litigation department and helping to develop the Business and Human Rights division of the firm. She advised and represented national and international clients in a wide variety of civil and commercial matters and counseled multinational companies on compliance with European Union legislative initiatives on human rights and the environment. In addition, she interned at the O’Neill Institute and Women’s Link Worldwide, where she assisted in the design and implementation of several legal projects related to tobacco control, nutrition labeling, and sexual and reproductive rights.

Fernández Alonso holds an LL.B. and bachelor’s degree in global governance from ESADE Law School in Barcelona, Spain, where she was awarded with an academic merit prize and talent scholarship. Later, she went on to earn a postgraduate degree in human rights and humanitarian action from Sciences Po Paris, France, while conducting a research project for Human Rights Watch.
