Shajoe J. Lake was an institute fellow at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law.

Lake worked primarily with the Global Center for Legal Innovation in Food Environments, where his research focused on legal and regulatory approaches to non-communicable diseases, including the regulation of food environments, human rights approaches to food policy, and addressing conflicts of interests and industry interference in policy making at the national, regional, and global level.

Prior to joining the O’Neill Institute, Lake worked at the international insurance advisory firm, Crawford & Company, where he negotiated personal injury awards and counseled global insurers in the U.S., U.K., and the Caribbean on product liability, employer’s liability, and public liability claims, including manslaughter, manufacturers’ negligence, and workplace occupational health and safety. Lake has also counseled various international organizations, nonprofits, and national governments on legal strategies to advance global health justice on infectious diseases, at the domestic, regional, and global level.

Lake holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with first class honors from the University of the West Indies, Mona. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in global health law from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was awarded the Global Health Law Scholarship and the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Advanced Scholarly Writing. Lake is a member of the Jamaican Bar and is qualified to practice in 15 Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States.
