Lawrence Gostin, a professor of global health law at Georgetown University in Washington, said the low vaccination coverage in Sub-Saharan Africa “is one of the greatest moral failures of our time”.
He said Africa had the lowest vaccination rate of any continent, with some countries yet to start mass vaccination campaigns.
Africa’s vaccination rate of 4.5 per 100 people was compared with 80 per 100 in North America and Europe, Gostin said.
“While North America and Europe are vaccinating even young, healthy people, most health workers in Africa remain unvaccinated.”
