HAMBURG WORRIES ABOUT MANDATORY GMO LABELING: Those opposed to mandatory GMO labeling got some welcome words from a former top Obama administration official on Friday. Former FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said she is concerned it could send the wrong message to consumers.

“This is the area that worries me the most, that we not enter a period of what some call science denialism out of fear,” Hamburg said at the O’Neill Institute’s Vote Food 2016 event at Georgetown Law Center, during a conversation about science in food policy. Hamburg said the positives for GMO crops, in particular, are “very compelling especially if we care about food security around the globe.”
