Mayor de Blasio Monday announced a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for essentially all of New York City’s private businesses, in response to an expected omicron variant winter surge. The mandate will impact 184,000 businesses not already subject to the existing mandate for city employees. Nearly 90% of adult residents have received one dose and 77% are fully vaccinated. The new mandates will require full vaccination, that is two doses of mRNA vaccines or one Johnson & Johnson dose. That’s smart given how infectious the delta variant is, with a potentially more infectious variant on the way and winter around the bend.
