The medicinal drug approval process in the United States and the agency that carries it out (the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)) are world-renowned for their safety and efficacy. The exceptions, where dangerous drugs are approved for use by the general population, are infrequent. While the FDA has broad power to keep drugs off the market and regulate their use, other agencies, such as the Department of Justice (DOJ), work to stem the flow and impact of illegal drugs.
