Record-High Marketplace Enrollment, but Failure To Extend Subsidies Could Impact Consumers

On March 23, 2022, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final Marketplace open enrollment report for 2022. Consistent with prior posts, overall enrollment across all 50 states and DC reached a record high of 14.5 million people. This increase—of about 21 percent relative to 2021—underscores the impact of enhanced subsidies under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and the continued importance of Marketplace coverage during the pandemic.
