More Americans died in 2020 from opioid overdose than were lost in battle during the entire Vietnam War. Drug overdose is now the leading cause of death for Americans under the age of 50.2 Opioid overdose deaths continue to rise year after year and, in 2020 increased 38.5% from the year before. That is more than six times as many Americans who died from opioid overdose in 19994 and the
death toll from 2021 is expected to be much worse.
