J.D. Colloquium: Health Law, Reproductive Justice, and Bioethics

Using civil disobedience as a foundation, this project develops the concept of “professional disobedience,” a term used to refer to the nonviolent and intentional defiance of the law by a member or members of an established profession, based on the professional’s conviction that the law is antithetical to the mission of the profession. The project uses healthcare professionals as a case study and fills important gaps in existing scholarship by providing a clear blueprint for professions to advocate for legal change when standard avenues of advocacy are unsuccessful, inadequate, or too slow.
