Dr. Carolina Batista is a global health leader with two decades of experience in humanitarian settings worldwide. Her work includes treating infectious diseases and managing programs in rural areas, isolated Indigenous communities, and urban slums.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Batista led the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) response in Navajo Nation and supported Indigenous communities in Brazil. As a member of The Lancet COVID-19 Commission, she has published numerous peer-reviewed papers on the pandemic.
Raised by a mother from the Amazon rainforest, Dr. Batista values traditional practices and integrates them with innovative tools, such as AI-driven mobile technology, to enhance global health communication with communities worldwide. Her work includes developing evidence-based assessments, training practitioners, and advocating for ethical AI and effective local communication tools.
As head of global health at Baraka Impact Finance, Dr. Batista leverages her expertise to support social entrepreneurs in developing innovative solutions for underserved populations. She chairs the DNDi Latin America board and serves on the boards of The Lancet Migration Latin America, Movement Health Foundation, and Health in Harmony.
Dr. Batista holds a medical degree from Brazil and a master’s in international public health from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. She also has advanced degrees in management, health and human rights, and policy and advocacy from renowned institutions.
