Regis Brian Chirenga is a student of the 2025–2026 LL.M. in National and Global Health Law and an O’Neill Institute Global Health Law Scholar. He is from Zimbabwe.
Chirenga is interested in global health law, governance, and human rights. His interests span the intersection of international trade and global health security, universal health coverage, and regulatory and governance mechanisms to improve responses to future health challenges. He is also passionate about addiction law and policy, particularly advocacy for a public health approach to substance use.
Prior to enrolling at Georgetown Law, Chirenga litigated commercial and family law matters with Paddington and Associates, a law firm in Harare. He previously interned at the O’Neill Institute’s Center on Addiction and Public Policy. His work included preliminary research on a state model law addressing substance use disorder (SUD) workforce challenges in the United States, and he authored a blog on a youth-centered public health approach to SUD in Zimbabwe. He also interned with the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, supporting investigations and legal research on cases of public interest, including rape, indecent assault, and fraud.
Since 2021, Chirenga has volunteered with Do It For The Kids in Harare, working with local donors and communities to support children in orphanages and children’s homes.
Chirenga holds an LL.B. (Hons) from Great Zimbabwe University, where, as a seasoned mooter, he led the team that won the 2023 All Africa International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition.
