Winner
Richlove Amposah was selected as the winner of the 2025 student writing competition. Richlove is a third-year law student at the University of Ghana with academic interests in commercial law, health law, and European Union law. She is particularly interested in the intersection of law and public health and the role of legal and regulatory frameworks in shaping food environments.
Her interest in these areas is reflected in her paper, “Regulating the Shelf and the Screen: How Law’s Silence Shapes Ghana’s Food Environment,” which explores the ways in which gaps in legal regulation can influence Ghana’s food environment. She has also gained practical legal experience through an internship at a leading law firm in Ghana and broadened her academic experience through an exchange programme at the University of Passau in Germany.
Runners Up
César Samuel Blásquez Lazarini was selected as a first runner-up with his paper Who Wins Food Policy Litigation? A Quantitative Study of Judicial Decisions in Mexico. César is a law student at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City, currently completing his final year of studies. He also serves as a Junior Associate at the law firm García Alcocer.
Uenes Batista de Oliveira was selected as the second runner-up, with his paper Beyond Information: The Constitutional Imperative of the “Selective Tax” on Ultra-Processed Foods in Brazil as a Tool for Health Equity An Analysis of Fiscal Regulation under the Lens of Proportionality and the Right to the Highest Attainable Standard of Health. Uenes is an undergraduate law student at the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. His academic and research interests include constitutional law, international human rights law, public health law, intellectual property, and legal and regulatory approaches to food environments, innovation, and social inequalities. He currently serves as a legal intern at Barroso Fontelles, Barcellos, Mendonça Advogados (BFBM).
