In remembrance of George Annas, Professor Michele Bratcher Goodwin and Lawrence O. Gostin share the following statement:

George Annas’ passing is an immeasurable loss. Beyond his contributions, he was a trailblazer, a mentor, and a cherished friend to so many. We join countless others across the health law and human rights fields in mourning one of the most influential voices of our time.

His legacy lives on not only in the ideas he championed, but in the many health law and bioethics scholars he inspired. Among his enduring legacies is co-founding the Health Law Professors Conference in 1978, now the leading annual gathering advancing health, justice, and the law.

As we remember him, we honor an extraordinary leader whose work and vision will continue to guide and shape us for years to come.
