#MeToo—Exploring the Path From Outrage to Systemic Change
WASHINGTON (Oct. 8, 2018) – One year ago this month, the #MeToo hashtag gained new life following the publication of The New York Times’ investigation about the now-disgraced Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. It didn’t take long for this popular phrase to become a movement.
With a focus on the powerful from Hollywood to senior government officials to the recent confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the #MeToo movement has shone the light on deep societal problems of sexual assault and gender discrimination, creating a new social movement encouraging victims to speak up and perpetrators to be held accountable.
But how do we move from outrage to systemic change?
That is the topic of a panel discussion Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Georgetown Law.
WHAT:
#MeToo—What is the Path From Outrage to Systemic Change?
This panel brings together experts working in women’s rights to discuss the health, legal, and policy implications of the #MeToo movement, and how the country can move toward creating long lasting systemic change to ensure gender equality and women’s rights. The discussion is part of the weekly “colloquium” for students, faculty and the public, hosted by the O’Neill Institute.

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center is the premier center for health law, scholarship, and policy.
