See the statements below from the O’Neill Institute’s Sam Halabi, director of the Center for Transformational Health Law, on the recent Gavi Pledging Summit and failure to meet the $11.9B goal.

“GAVI’s work — including innovative models for sustainable global health finance and the convening of ministries of finance and health — has saved millions of children’s lives and contributed billions to the economies of low-income countries whose populations are healthier and more productive through the prevention of disabling illnesses.

As Dr. Sania Nishtar mentioned, for this moment in global health, the pledge conference likely went as well as could be expected. However, the lack of U.S. leadership and support for this organization, whose work actively promotes the interests of U.S. individuals and businesses and those of the world’s most vulnerable populations, is a sad moment for all.”
