Strengthening the negotiating power of D.C. communities when community benefits agreements.
About
Community benefits agreements (CBAs) are contracts negotiated between community members and a real estate developer, where the developer agrees to provide certain benefits or amenities in exchange for the community’s support of a development project. CBAs can give communities impacted by the development project a voice in the process, secure resources to support community goals, and increase accountability and transparency between the developer and the community.
The Center for Community Health Innovation has created a public tracker of D.C.-based CBAs, as well as a toolkit for communities to learn from and use as models in creating their own CBAs.
