This year, states across the country passed legislation to address increasing rates of opioid overdose deaths and improve approaches to substance use disorder. Legislation focusing on oversight of state opioid litigation funds, expanded access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), dissemination and decriminalization of drug paraphernalia, and enhanced fentanyl sentencing all passed this year. Please note that this list is not exhaustive of all addiction related legislation but is a select list of items tracked by the O’Neill Institute.
