On January 30, 2024, members of the Health and Human Rights Initiative (HHRI) submitted a written input for the forthcoming report of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, focusing on the linkages between sex work and violence against women and girls.

HHRI’s input highlights some connections between sex work and women’s right to health. It specifically challenges the underlying assumption that the use of criminal law can be a valid public health intervention and an effective means to prevent violence in this context.
