Communications Intern

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center is seeking a communications intern to support the communications and events team with creating compelling content, distributing content across a wide range of platforms, and exploring creative opportunities to engage with key stakeholders. 

The communications intern is a paid, part-time position. Students typically work 15-20 hours a week. The communications intern will have a hybrid work model that supports a blend of in-office (work out of the O’Neill Institute’s offices on the Georgetown Law campus in Washington, D.C.) and telework.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft social media content and outward-facing communications materials
  • Assist with content updates to the O’Neill Institute website
  • Support on project and content calendar management
  • Maintain mailing list and reporter lists
  • Provide editing, proofreading, and quality assurance as needed
  • Participate in brainstorms and content ideation
  • Research social media and PR trends, tools, and best practices
  • Keep the pulse on health law issues by engaging in media monitoring and social listening
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Community-Led Monitoring Evaluation Consultant

The O’Neill Institute for National & Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, graduate-level consultant based in South Africa to support the evaluation of the Center for Global Health Policy and Politics (GHPP)  partner’s community-led project. The consultant will provide a leading role in the evaluation of South Africa’s community-led monitoring program and must have extensive knowledge of the South Africa Health System.

This evaluation will concentrate specifically on Ritshidze’s engagements at district level. It will involve conducting interviews with key stakeholders and duty bearers at this level. Emphasis will primarily be on identifying and analyzing barriers, enablers and potential prospects for successful engagements at this level.

This evaluation should provide insights that can enhance the effectiveness of Ritshidze’s initiatives at district level and inform future strategies for highly impactful district-level engagements. An in-depth evaluation report summarizing key findings and offering clear recommendations is expected by the end of the 30-days consultancy.  
This contract entails 30 days of work starting on September 9th 2024, with a possibility of extension. The consultant will work part-time, not to exceed 20 hours per week.  Given the need for in-person interviews with key informants, the consultant must be based in South Africa.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and refining proposed research methodology
  • Developing data collection interview guide(s) to be administered to key respondents.
  • Conducting qualitative data collection and developing and managing database of responses 
  • Analyzing and visualizing data 
  • Meeting regularly with CLM project team and South Africa focal points 
  • Providing final evaluation report 
  • Contributing to other related project management tasks as necessary or assigned

Who Are We Looking For?

Required

  • Master’s in political science, public policy, public health, or related field 
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Experience in conducting program evaluation
  • Experience or training in social science methodologies e.g., key informant interviews, focus group discussions, thematic analysis and coding 
  • Experience in data collection, interpretation, and presentation 
  • Background in global public health or global development
  • Comfort with working independently

Preferred

  • Experience in community-led advocacy and HIV/AIDS 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of South Africa’s health and political systems

Events Intern

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown Law is seeking an events intern to support the communications and events team with the virtual, hybrid, and in-person events we host across our initiatives and centers.

The events intern is a paid, part-time position. Students typically work 15-20 hours a week. Interns will primarily work on a hybrid schedule for the fall 2024 internship. In-person attendance will be required typically at least a few times a week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with O’Neill’s communications and events associate to execute events from the planning stages through post-event wrap up
  • Research off-site event venues and potential vendors
  • Coordinate with vendors and provide support on catering arrangements
  • Create run-of-show documents
  • Maintain inventory of event supplies
  • Create and manage event registration forms
  • Assist with event logistics, including placing room reservations, maintaining events calendar, and providing on-site event support
  • Download, edit, and upload event recordings
  • Perform duties as assigned

Extern, Addiction and Public Policy Initiative

The Addiction and Public Policy Initiative works to advance a public health approach to substance use disorders and the overdose epidemic through legal and policy strategies that promote evidence-based treatment and support recovery.

The initiative seeks law students and graduate students to work on research, publications, and projects related to addiction and drug policy.

Work includes:

  • Conducting short-term advanced research projects
  • Policy writing on domestic legal and policy issues such as addiction treatment and incarceration, social determinants of addiction, and federal, state and local drug policies

The Addiction and Public Policy Initiative hosts full-time and part-time externs throughout the academic year and summer in paid positions using internal and external funding sources, as well as for course credit or to fulfill legal, medical, or graduate residency requirements. Externs can participate remotely or in-person in Washington, D.C. Paid positions are open int he summer using internal and external funding sources.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with research, publications, and projects related to addiction and drug policy

Who Are We Looking For?

  • A current law or graduate student
  • Strong qualitative or policy research, writing, and editing skills (knowledge of the U.S. legal system)

Primary Responsibilities:

Richmond Oral Health Scholars

The Center for Community Health Innovation at the O’Neill Institute invites rising second- and third-year Georgetown Law students to apply for the Richmond Oral Health Scholars Program. Oral health serves as a key indicator of overall well-being; policies and practices promoting oral health and integrating oral and systemic health can improve health outcomes. This program provides an immersive, community-engaged policy lawyering experience to enrich students’ understanding of policymaking, health systems, and advocacy. Scholars will gain interdisciplinary legal, policy, and research training to inspire integrative solutions to oral and systemic health disparities. Scholar activities will support ongoing community- and client-based work to reduce disparities in access to oral health in the District of Columbia.

Richmond Oral Health Scholars will:

  • Deepen understanding of biological, social, and behavioral risk factors common to oral and systemic disease
  • Participate in community coalition building and interaction with local government actors
  • Conduct legal and policy research and writing
  • Strengthen academic writing and public speaking skills
  • Analyze models from other states for adoption locally
  • Support community-based change-making
  • Participate in cross-campus professional development and substantive learning sessions with Scholars from the Medical and McCourt Schools

Senior Events Manager

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center is seeking a senior events manager to plan, execute, and evaluate in-person and virtual events that are in service of the Institute’s mission and vision. The senior manager will also serve as an advisor to the director of strategic communications and substantive directors across the Institute on event strategy. 

The senior events manager will have a hybrid work model that supports a blend of in-office (work out of the O’Neill Institute’s offices on the Georgetown Law campus in Washington, D.C.) and telework. This position reports to the director of strategic communications and will work closely with the senior director of finance and external affairs and the chief of staff to develop event budgets, reporting, and analysis. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead on designing, executing, and evaluating in-person and virtual events

  • Develop event timelines, project plans, and logistical details to ensure smooth execution
