Washington, D.C. — The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, a leading health policy think tank, today announced that Katie Keith, director of its Health Policy and the Law Initiative, has been named Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the White House Gender Policy Council. Keith previously served on the Council as a Senior Advisor for Health Policy, where she focused on reproductive health care, maternal health, and LGBTQI+ health, while on public service leave from Georgetown University.

Established in 2021 by President Biden, the White House Gender Policy Council advances gender equity and gender equality in domestic and foreign policy. In her new role, Keith will oversee the Council’s domestic policy portfolio, including issues related to health, economic security, and education.
Keith is a distinguished scholar and recognized expert on the Affordable Care Act. She launched the Institute’s Health Policy and the Law initiative in 2021, taught courses on the Affordable Care Act and LGBT Health Law and Policy, and provided “Following the ACA” rapid response analysis for Health Affairs, where she was a contributing editor. Her analysis has also been featured in numerous national and state media outlets across the country, and her publications have appeared in the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics, Health Affairs, and the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, among others.

Andrew Twinamatsiko and Zachary Baron, who managed the O’Neill Institute’s Health Policy and the Law Initiative during Keith’s public service leave from Georgetown University, have been named co-directors of the initiative.
