India is grappling with mounting challenges to its democracy – a surprising 2024 election, intersecting economic and political insecurities, and stress tests for its human-rights-based constitution. These issues unfold as the country strives to improve the health and well-being of the world’s largest population. Anand Grover, a world-renowned lawyer and human rights activist, will join Professor Michele Bratcher Goodwin and Professor Matthew Kavanagh for a conversation about the current state of India and what the challenges to democracy reveal about the future of law, health, and human rights in a multi-crisis world.

Speakers:

  • Anand Grover, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India; Former U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health

  • Michele Bratcher Goodwin, Co-Faculty Director, O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law; Linda D. & Timothy J. O’Neill Professor of Constitutional Law and Global Health Policy
