The O’Neill Institute’s Center for Health and Human Rights and Ríos are pleased to present the second annual “Judicial Dialogues on Health and the Law.” This groundbreaking event brings together high court judges from across the region to explore the judiciary’s critical role in upholding the right to health as a public good.
Through thematic closed-door discussions and a public conference, attendees will examine pressing issues at the intersection of health and human rights, including sexual and reproductive health, the regulation of private actors in healthcare, and non-regression and the protection of health and related rights.

The public conference, “The Judicial Protection of the Right to Health: Contemporary Challenges and Opportunities,” serves as the culmination of these judicial dialogues and will feature justices sharing their experiences with rights-based rulings on health at Georgetown Law. The public conference will frame the discussion around the challenges and tensions that arise in the judicial enforcement of the right to health and related rights, and will reflect on a range of issues that often emerge in their work and how these are addressed in their respective countries.

Este evento reúne a jueces de altas cortes de la región para reflexionar sobre el rol del Poder Judicial en la protección del derecho a la salud como bien público.
A través de diálogos temáticos a puertas cerradas y una conferencia pública, los y las juezas participantes analizarán temas emergentes que se encuentran en la intersección entre la salud y los derechos humanos, incluyendo la salud reproductiva, la regulación de actores privados, y la no regresividad y protección de la salud y derechos relacionados.

La conferencia pública, “La protección judicial del derecho a la salud: desafíos y oportunidades actuales,” es la culminación de estos diálogos y contará con la participación de las juezas y jueces, quienes compartirán sus experiencias en la emisión de sentencias basadas en derechos en materia de salud y derechos relacionados. La conferencia enmarcará la discusión en torno a los desafíos y tensiones que surgen en la aplicación judicial del derecho a la salud y derechos relacionados, así como en las reflexiones sobre una variedad de temas que suelen presentarse en su labor y cómo se abordan en sus respectivos países.
