We are pleased to invite you to “Front of Package Labeling: 5 years protecting public health and human rights,” co-organized by the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), the Global Center for Legal Innovation on Food Environments of the O’Neill Institute, Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health and El Poder del Consumidor.
Date: March 11, 2025
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Mexico City time UTC/GMT -6 hours)
In March 2020, Mexico adopted front of package warning labeling (FOPWL) on packaged foods and non-alcoholic beverages. With FOPWL implementation, Mexican consumers gained a tool to exercise their rights to information, health, and adequate food.
Now in its fifth year of implementation, and following the delivery of sentences from the Mexican Supreme Court in November 2024 ruling in favor of the constitutionality of Mexican FOPWL, we invite you to be part of a discussion in which we will share the achievements and challenges of this policy from two perspectives: public health and the law.
The forum will include the participation of public health researchers, Supreme Court clerks, activists, and academics, as well as inaugural participation of the Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
